Drew and I have been playing Mr. Dad and Mrs. Mom for the past 10 days, while my parents have been in Mexico celebrating their 25th anniversary. As much as we love my sisters, and love my parent’s house, we are ready to be home. There is seriously no place like home! Which, brings me to thinking....I need to share photos of our house. I'll get on that......

Love, Love, Love It!
This week, I helped DELIVER A BABY! Now for anyone who doesn’t know….. I am in my last year of nursing school. I didn’t just watch a friend have her baby, or help a mom who’s water broke….I was front and center, in the hospital, for the whole birth! Actually, I was front and center in the OR, for a C-section. It was the most incredible experience, and definitely far surpassed my expectations. I was responsible for taking care of the baby once she was out of her mom’s stomach. That meant making sure her lungs were clear, briskly rubbing her skin to stimulate circulation, re-clipping her umbilical cord, taking her vitals, giving her shots, applying ointment to her eyes, and doing her first footprints. It was so fast-paced and so amazing to be apart of. I also got to spend the entire day, post-delivery, taking care of both mom and baby. I love that these nurses get such a 1:1 experience here. THIS IS DEFINITELY an area of nursing that I want to be apart of!

Hello Warmth, Goodbye House
Last week marked a very important moment for me... I have officially had my LAST, first day of school! Woooohooooo!!!!!
The entire week was definitely CHAOTIC. I am driving to lectures during peak Seattle traffic, which means that twice a week I leave the house at 7:10am and do not get to school until 8:26am (4 min before class starts). I also had a nightmarish orientation at the psych ward…one which I will try to forget for the next five weeks. I came home in shock that night after orientation…and I’m definitely more anxious now than I was before I saw the hospital. I guess I will just have to enjoy my next five weeks in OB… and try to replace my anxiety about psych with my excitement about OB!
In other news, Drew and I almost had a MAJOR crisis this week. On Thursday night Drew began cleaning up the dinner dishes and suggested I sit down and do my homework in front of our “fireplace”. Now, our fireplace is not your average fireplace. Ours is this funny, electric fireplace with fake flames and a heat blower. As I’m sitting there in front of the fireplace, with the computer in my lap, I suddenly am hit in the back of my arm with a painfully hot fleck. Drew turned his head quickly, after hearing my screams, and realized that REAL fire was spitting out of the fake flames…. yes SPITTING! Drew heroically reached his arms through the flames and quickly shut the whole system down. We both were really freaked out… but no one was hurt. We are also thankful we still have a house! If we had left the room for a few minutes, this small electrical fire may not have been so forgiving. No worries friends…someone is coming out to repair it first thing this upcoming week!
